MPC service – Fundraising strategy/ bid writing
Elim Connect works with disadvantaged and homeless people in Mendip to help them to change their lives. Elim Connect is about participating in community life. Their ethos is that we all have something we can give, and we all have something we need. Their vision was, and is, to create a community hub where people from all walks of life can connect with one another.
Elim Connects aim is to serve the social, physical, spiritual, mental and emotional needs of the community in an accessible way and ensure that vulnerable people, including young people and families are integrated and play and active role within their local community.
Lack of a robust fundraising strategy.
Reduction in local authority funding – there had been a reliance on income from Local Authority grants.
What we did
Miles Phillips Consulting Ltd were commissioned by Elim Connect to generate a fundraising audit and strategy in May 2017. The aim was to recommend a strategy that reduced dependency on local authority and partnership funding and create a broader more sustainable funding platform on which to build growth. We undertook the following activities in developing the strategy
A review current activity and projects at Connect
A review of income generated by Connect
Research plus Interviews with staff exploring the strengths of Connect, potential opportunities, the fundraising environment and competition, the nature and extent of fundraising activity and areas for development.
Presentation of final review to staff.
On completion of this work we have continued working with Elim Connect and are now in our third year of working with them.
Development of fundraising strategy.
Creation of case for support and bid writing to raise an agreed amount of funding from trust and foundations.
We have linked Elim Connect with a Christian Housing provider
Identified and secured social investment for a Roots CIC
Help a series of strategic visioning days for the Senior Management Team
Provided budget support to improve financial reporting to funders
Raised additional capital and revenue
Presented the Business Plan to the senior team
